LOVERS TIFF... A pair of kites can be seen from below as they come to blows in mid-air while hunting. The battle forms part of their courtship and took place in Ceredigion, Wales.
Mark Rolph, 57, said, “At this time of year, kites will be pairing up for breeding. They will pass food to each other and grab each other in flight, sometimes tumbling to the ground before releasing. All part of the courtship.”
“The kites will just start chasing each other high up with one of them going for the other. After the tussles and food passing, they will part company and go their separate ways, until the next time.”

The shots were taken over my smallholding in the village of Penuwch in Ceredigion, Mid West Wales over late March, early April this year.
What species of Kite is this? Are they common here?
These are Red Kites and they are very common particularly in Mid Wales.
Can you describe what is happening in these images? Are they fighting? Is it a mating dance? etc.
At this time of year Kites will be pairing up for breeding. They will pass food to each other and grab each other in flight, sometimes tumbling to the ground before releasing. All part of the courtship!
Can you give us an insight into the moments leading up to this as well as directly after?
The Kites will just start chasing each other high up with one of them going for the other. After the tussles and food passing, they will part company and go there separate ways, until the next time!
How were you able to capture these images?
With the Kites being common around here, I literally just have to walk out of my front door to see this spectacle. My photos are taken with a Nikon DSLR camera and lens.
