In a combined operation on the night of February 27 and 28, joint forces of the royal navy, the army and the royal air force attacked and destroyed an important German radio-location post at Bruneval, on the coast of France, twelve miles north of Havre. Parachute troops of an air-borne division were dropped by bombers of the R.A.F. and were supported in the latter part of their task by infantry. The attackers and German prisoners taken during the raid were brought back to Britain by the royal navy. German prisoners being searched on one of the returning vessels on March 1942. Prisoner on the right is a member of the Luftwaffe, the other an infantryman. (AP Photo)
