Vintage Ferrari that has had near £800,000 restoration selling for £9.5million
A vintage Ferrari that has undergone a £800,000 restoration is selling for £9.5million.
The Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta was built in 1960.
It has a top speed of 152mph.
It has 14 podium finishes across over 20 races and was also entered into Le Mans.
It is painted bright yellow with the black Ferrari logo on the side.
It features a huge number 11 sticker on the bonnet, side and rear of the car.
Although it has undergone a restoration, the motor still has its matching numbered chassis, engine, and rear axle.
The restoration cost £785,000.
The SWB model has a 168-type “outside-plug” version of Ferrari’s 3-litre V-12 engine.
It also has disc brakes fitted on all four corners—for endurance racing.
It has achieved overall or class victories in nearly 250 races between 1960 and 1967.
These included notable wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1960 and 1961.
It also achieved an overall victory at the 1961 and 1962 Tour de France.
Here, it beat eight 250 GTOs in the process.
The racecar is just one of just 45 aluminium-bodied Competizione examples built in 1960.
The chassis 1773 GT was completed on 16 March 1960.
It has had a number of owners since it was made who entered it into racing competitions.
The RM Sotheby's listing reads: “Driven to 5th in class in the model’s race debut at the 1960 12 Hours of Sebring.
“Highly successful period race history with 14 podium finishes across over 20 races.
“Equipped from new with the more powerful Tipo 168 B engine, a specification that only a very limited number of the 1960 alloy SWB Berlinettas received.
“Ferrari Classiche Red Book certified; retains its matching-numbers chassis, engine, and rear axle.
“Subject of a recent full concours-level restoration by Wayne Obry’s Motion Products
