WIZYTA W AUSTRALII
PHOTO: EAST NEWS/REX FEATURES Her Majesty the Queen visited Wales on Thursday where she opened the second term of the Welsh Assembly (5 June). The Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Charles, attended the opening of the assembly in Cardiff Bay, as well as a number of other functions in the Welsh capital. Before addressing Assembly Members (AMs), the Queen met party leaders as well as the goat mascot of the Royal Welsh Regiment which stood alongside a guard of the regiment outside the assembly building. The Queen told AMs of her "continuing interest" in the assembly's work and referred to the "essential role it increasingly plays" in the lives of people in Wales. Prince Charles also made an address in Welsh, a language he learnt while at university in Aberystwyth, Wales, saying: "Wales has its own identity and voice." On Tuesday the Queen opened the new term of the Scottish parliament and on Monday she celebrated the 50th anniversary of her coronation.
