In 2009 Afghan President Hamid Karzai signed the Law on the Elimination of Violence Against Women but hundreds of women were still in prison for alleged moral crimes. In 2012 Human Rights Watched filed a report and requested the release of 400 falsely accused women in moral crime prisons.
