Volcano, Mt. Odake looms above Sukayu Onsen (hot spring) Hotel and heats the springs that have made the onsen hotel popular to Japanese people for over a century. As the legend goes, 300 years ago a hunter shot and wounded a deer in this high valley. Three days later, he saw the same deer running as if it were not injured at all. Later, he found this sulphur hot spring and found that the deer's wounds had healed in a very short time because it had soaked in this spring's medicinal waters. The hot spring was named, "Shika-no-Yu" or "Deer Hot Spring". Later the spring was renamed, Sukayu, or "Acidic Hot Spring". Aomori Prefecture, Japan.
