MONKEY BUSINESS: Thieves train PRIMATES to rob ???DOZENS??? of people ??" as police launch 'special task force' to apprehend the suspects. Two men have been caught training monkeys to assist in robberies in New Delhi, India. Local police received a call about the pair using primates to loot the public in broad daylight. The monkeys were allegedly trained to chase vehicles to rob people under instruction from their owners, as well as being used as a threat to persuade people to hand over their cash. Police put together a ??sspecial task force??? to find the suspects, monitoring CCTV footage and receiving tips from the public. The men and their monkeys were eventually detained from a Chirag bus stand after officers allegedly conducted several raids in the area. The suspects were identified as Vikram Nath and Balwant. Footage of the two suspects walking with the monkeys on leashes has emerged. Both men are wearing orange head coverings as they are flanked by officials. Meanwhile, the monkeys, not named, were sent to a nearby wildlife centre to recover from their life of crime. According to Delhi???s Deputy Commissioner of Police for the south region, Atul Kumar Thakur, a first information report (FIR) has been registered under Section 392 of the Indian Penal Code. The two men have also been booked under relevant provisions of the 1972 Wildlife Protection Act. A third suspect, identified as Ajay, is yet to be located by Delhi police, but is believed to also have used a monkey to intimidate pedestrians. ??sThey hopped on a rickshaw and instructed their primates before stealing cash from me," said a victim during the trial, who claims to have been robbed by the thieves in Delhi???s Khirki Extension. The witness added that the thieves allegedly snatched INR 6,000 after threatening him with the use of their monkeys. A police officer said: ??sThey jumped on a rickshaw in which an advocate was travelling on April 8 (Thursday). ??sLater, they fled with cash after involving monkeys to draw out cash from victim???s wallet.??? The two culprits are believed to have confessed and accepted their crime ??" adding they did so for their livelihood. They are being interrogated for involvement in further crimes in the Indian capital. The bizarre incident occurred as it emerged ??shundreds??? of similar incidents involving primates have been reported across the country, as well as Pakistan and Bangladesh, where monkeys are used in the circus to fetch money.
