Tokay Geckos being dried and prepared for export to China and Taiwan in the rural district of Na Wa in Nakhon Phanom Province of Northeast Thailand.
For decades this rural community has become famous for the business and preparation of large dried Tokay geckos, an industry in which almost every household in this community is involved in.
Buying them often hundreds at a time for approximately 1USD, depending on the size, they are attached and baked on to wooden sticks and exported to China and Taiwan and used in Chinese medicine to treat everything from cancer, asthma, diabetes and erectile dysfunction.
