Women IDPs collect firewood several km from the camp under the gaze of the home guard militia. The home guard are men from the local area armed and equipped to protect the local population from potential abduction by the LRA. The vast majority of northern Uganda's Acholi people now live in IDP camps in and around towns. They have fled their land and villages for fear of attack from the Lord's Resistance Army. The Ugandan authorities have insisted that villagers move to these sites, effectively cutting off the LRA's source of food and personnel - usually in the form of abducted children.
