EXCLUSIVE: **NO NEW YORK POST OR NEWS CORP USAGES** Story from Jam Press (Covid Face) Pictured: Paul Godfrey in 2019 before catching Covid. COVID FACE: Reality TV star who suffered COLLAPSED LUNGS says Covid made his face 'balloon' ??" as he turns to BOTOX to stop side effects and 'excessive sweating' A Covid survivor who suffered collapsed lungs due to coronavirus has revealed how he has now turned to Botox injections after his face and body was left unrecognisable. Paul Godfrey, 33, from Frinton-on-Sea, Essex, was admitted to hospital in March 2020 after contracting coronavirus. Due to pre-existing lung disease, bronchiectasis and asthma, the virus caused Paul's lungs to collapse and he also developed pneumonia. He was rushed to hospital, where he was put on a breathing machine and later confined to intensive care in a private room with a nurse on call 24/7. Thankfully, however, after two weeks, in a miraculous recovery, Paul was allowed to return home ??" but needed to take steroids to help his lungs heal. The medication, along with his long Covid symptoms, changed his appearance drastically. Paul has now turned to Botox treatments, which cost over ?L1,000 so far. He gets the injections in his armpits to stop the sweating and in the face to help tighten the muscles. ??sI couldn???t take a full breath for nearly a week so I had to have physiotherapy to help, along with a breathing machine,??? he told Jam Press. ??sI was also put on steroids, which was a huge help, but like all steroids, they can have side effects such as weight gain and ???moon face??? ??" which I ended up getting. ??sI???d lost so much weight in the hospital from not having much of an appetite and losing my taste that when I came out I was very skinny, but then I just got huge.??? Paul, who once appeared on E4's Celebs Go Dating, first noticed the weight gain in his body but says his ???moon face??? was the worst, as he felt it balloon. He said: ??sI know appearances aren???t important in comparison to getting better but there were other side effects to the steroids I took, such as making you speak really fast. ??sI had to use a wheelchair for five months after getting home from hospital as I could hardly walk, so that didn???t help with the weight gain either.??? As he recovered, Paul said people brazenly told him that he had gained weight or unashamedly touched his belly. He said: ??sI would be out and people would make comments like ???Paul you???re packing on the weight,??? or like ???Paul what???s happened????. ??sThat was the worst as I knew how different I looked and had always taken my appearance so seriously.??? Paul was also experiencing another side-effect of long Covid ??" excess sweating. He said: ??sI???d never really been a sweaty person or had an issue with it, but since getting Covid I sweat like mad, even if it???s freezing. ??sI still can???t walk very far so it???s like my body is doing a full workout when I???m doing the most simple things. ??sTo keep the sweat under control I would use baby powder and deodorant but I also would put on plenty of aftershave.??? Paul spoke to friends about the situation and discovered some of them had used Botox to combat the sweating. He also hoped it would get rid of his moon face and help him regain his confidence. After extensive research and conversations, he booked in to see private practitioner Dr Vincent Wong on Harley Street. He said: ??sMy family was cautious but they knew how fed up I was with my appearance and how drastically it had changed, so they were all for it. ??sI???d followed Dr Wong on Instagram years ago and knew he had a great reputation. "As a lifestyle blogger I???d tried a few things in the past, such as Botox, filler and skin tightening laser treatments. ??sLots of friends recommended using Botox to stop me sweating so much so I went to see him and we also talked about using it in my face along with filler to tighten up certain areas. ??sEven just a week after having it I couldn???t believe the results. Botox stops me sweating in the areas injected and filler has given my face its shape back. ??sBefore, the skin on my face looked like it was hanging and made me super self conscious as I???m only 33. "I just look like me again.??? The reality star says that since having the treatments his confidence has soared ??s100%??? and he loves that he doesn???t look ??sill??? anymore. He added: ??sI???m not saying having Botox and filler will help cure Covid or long Covid but for me this was about helping me sort out one of my health issues. ??sI???m still suffering so much with long Covid but to know on the outside I???m slowly getting back to me really has helped. ??sIt???s very hard to explain to people about long Covid who haven???t seen it first-hand but I try my hardest. "Many people didn???t believe it was real until they saw the state I was in and still am in. ??sI???m determined to get back to the best I can be."
