Three young girls go about their morning chores in a camp for displaced people that is situated in the grounds of the old Italian Cathedral in Mogadishu, Somalia on July 11th 2012. Women and girls from this camp have reported increasing levels of violence and sexual attacks. One mother in the camp said " Every family that has a nine year old girl will hide them at night so that she can be safe even the ones who are not attacked that night will undergo a lot of worry. " The promise of humanitarian assistance has encouraged thousands of Somali families affected by drought and conflict to converge on Mogadishu. But while the capital's refugee camps appear to offer a safe haven, the reality for mothers and daughters is markedly different, with many living in fear of rape by armed bandits.
