(915841d) Prince Philip Service to Commemorate the 500th anniversary of the founder of Yeoman Of The Guard, Westminster Abbey, London, Britain - 28 Apr 2009 The Queen has thanked her famous royal bodyguards, the Yeomen of the Guard, today (28 April). Accompanied by Prince Philip, the Queen attended a service at Westminster Abbey in honour of King Henry VII, who found the Yeoman. More than 70 Yeomen were also in attendance at the ceremony, dressed in full regalia. This includes a distinctive red and gold tunics, large white ruffled collars, scarlet stockings and flat brimmed black Tudor hats. Henry VII created the Queen's Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard in 1485 at the Battle of Bosworth. Today, the guard has a purely ceremonial role and members are drawn from retired members of the British Army, Royal Marines and Royal Air Force.
