Poszukiwanie szczątków ofiar Hiszpańskiej Wojny Domowej - Redux

Volunteers work to recreate the position of bodies in the pit under the direction of medical examiner Francisco Etxeberria. During and after the end of the Spanish Civil War, more than 120,000 people were killed by the victors, without judgment or blame, and buried along roads and in fields. 75 years later, the relatives of these victims are still demanding justice, without any help from the government. Since 2000, groups of people have been are trying to uncover this tragic part of Spanish history; searching for and recovering the bodies of those killed by Franco's supporters. This work is carried out by volunteers and private foundations, and coordinated by the Association for the Recovery of Historical Memory (ARMH). Doctors, anthropologists and psychologists from all over Spain, as well as villages near where the murders occurred, aid in recovery from mass graves. The bones of those killed are analyzed to confirm their identities, so that they can thereby be remembered and given justice. The bones are kept in plastic boxes awaiting identification in offices at the Universities of Madrid and San Sebastian. They will later be returned to their families who will decide what to do with them. In some cases, they are buried in cemeteries at the places where they were murdered. These photographs are part of a still unfinished body of work which began in 2010, in different parts of Spain.
