Amelie Deblauwe and B?a?ej Miku?a, Senior Photographers in the Digital Content Unit of Cambridge University Library, work together to photograph a large 10th Century Masoretic Bible fragment, using a custom-made XYZ table. The flat table is specifically designed to photograph large maps/manuscripts/scrolls and anything considered oversized. It operates like a 3D printer - the base will move but the camera will stay fixed. The largest manuscript they have photographed is 4x2 and half metres. The table makes it possible to photograph large items with incredibly high quality, using specialist software which stitches together multiple images. The Digital Content Unit is tasked with digitising all content including manuscripts, fragments and documents ranging from a few millimetres to metres in length for the Cambridge Digital Library, a public, open access database of 735,000 items. The Digital Library, set up in 2007, has been viewed in every single country in the world, and digitises material from multiple institutions. Within the department there are five photographers. The digitising process including photographing, multi spectral imaging, 3D imaging, traditional studio work, video work, and photogrammetry (3D modelling).
