The pilgrimage is held dispite the poor weather conditions. Some pilgrims ask friends or relatives to pick them up in a vehicle for the trip back. Hundreds of thousand of pilgrims crowd the small village of Sant'Anastasia, Naples, to celebrate the miracle of the "Madonna Dell'Arco" who bled from the cheek. Pilgrims walk from neighboring villages and Naples, some walk more than 35 miles, bringing along the whole family. It's a tradition to cover the distance barefoot.
