The backstage of the sanctuary of the Virgin Mary of the Arch in Sant'Anastasia near Naples. The sanctuary keeps the icon of the Virgin Mary which in 1450 was seen bleeding from a cheek after being hit by a iron ball. Hundreds of thousand of pilgrims crowd the small village of Sant'Anastasia, Naples, to celebrate the miracle of the "Madonna Dell'Arco" who bled from the cheek. Pilgrims walk from neighboring villages and Naples, some walk more than 35 miles, bringing along the whole family. It's a tradition to cover the distance barefoot.
