Flags and enormous banners crafted with symbols of devotions like chariots, wooden icons, crosses and religious characters the icon of the Virgin Mary of the Arch by communities and are a symbol of devotion. Hundreds of thousand of pilgrims crowd the small village of Sant'Anastasia, Naples, to celebrate the miracle of the "Madonna Dell'Arco" who bled from the cheek. Pilgrims walk from neighboring villages and Naples, some walk more than 35 miles, bringing along the whole family. It's a tradition to cover the distance barefoot.
