Chester Cygan tours a partially suspended, partially abandoned site on his property in Alsike, Alberta. A pipeline that runs through the site is still active, but two wells next to it - one that was capped in 1981 and the other that was suspended in 2005.
"What can you do? What can you do?" Cygan kept muttering as we toured the site. His cattle got through the fence once and drank fluid from a barrel that gave them the runs. The oil company paid him $500 for that incident.
Now the company is late in making its annual lease payment.
