These giraffes stoop their necks down low as they tower over their newest edition to their family. The tender moment was witnessed by Roger and Jenny Zhao in the Masai Mara, Kenya which showed the calf's mother and sibling arching over the newborn. They said, “It is rare to see a giraffe birth in the wild, let alone an interaction like this between a newborn, the mother, and an older sibling. It was definitely a case of ‘right time, right place’. I love that the mother and older sibling create an arch with their necks, like a beautiful frame around the newborn.” “It was challenging to take these photos as they are so tall. When and where were the photos taken? Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya in March 2023 2. How did you capture the shots? Using a Sony a1 and Sony 400mm f2.8 telephoto lens from a low-angle safari vehicle 3. Is it typical to see such scenes between giraffes and their calves? It is rare to see a giraffe birth in the wild, let alone an interaction between a newborn giraffe and an older sibling, so it was definitely a 'right time, right place' moment 4. What is your favourite thing(s) about the shots? My favorite thing about the shot is how the mother and the older sibling create an arch, creating a beautiful frame around the newborn calf, as well as the mountains in the background which show a sense of place 5. Was there anything challenging about getting the shots and if so, what was it? The challenging part was trying to get in the best position/angle from the car to capture the birth and the family interactions that followed - since they are so tall, we had to be further away to keep them in the frame and keep repositioning the car as they moved around. In addition, another challenge was determining when to shoot stills vs. videos. 6. What is your preferred full name, age, occupation and where are you from?
