Prof. Shubha Tole is an Indian neuroscientist, Professor and Principal Investigator at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. Her research involves investigating the development and evolution of the mammalian brain, and she has won many awards for her work. "I study the brain, seen as a computer, which does fantastic things. All our imagination, our creativity, all our feelings about the world. The brain gives us a sense of where we are and, indeed, who we are. And yet this computer cannot be bought and assembled from spare parts. When we are embryo, growing, we are one cell - becomes many cells and some of the cells becomes a brain. I study how this computer is growing in the embryo. Everybody faces obstacles, the one for woman are unique. Its meeting those obstacles that makes the process rewarding. Every time you strugle to overcome one (obstacle), you make it better for the woman behind you. And you contribute. If everything was golden, where would the fulfilment come from?
