Matthew is a gay cis male from Wales. Wales: MEET the LGBTQ+ artist who could be the UK’s next Eurovision hope who says X-factor is fake after participating in the show. Makeup artist turned pop star Matthew Joseph (24) from Holyhead, North Wales has entered negotiations to be the UK’s next Eurovision singer, currently preparing for his January audition, with his newest single “Waiting” making it into iTune’s top 30 in October 2022. Matthew has high hopes to represent the UK in the next Eurovision competition. He has been contacted about an audition for the Eurovision selection board and Tap Music Management in January. Matthew has been singing from a young age, performing in music and dance competitions until he became a viral sensation with one million hits on TikTok in 2020 with his song “Fetish”. In 2019, he performed his debut track “Better Off Without You” on the UK TV show Judge Romesh. In 2021, Matthew released “Chance” featuring Myah Marie, songwriter for Britney Spears, Myah Marie, and singer/songwriter George Pelham. Matthew has also worked with American rapper DJ Waffles and is in contact with Madonna’s daughter, Lolahol, about song collaborations. In 2021 drag queen Derrick Barry featured in Matthew’s music video “Under the Collar”. Matthew has been in touch with Derrick over many years, the pair final collaborating over lockdown. Matthew released his newest single “Waiting” in October 2022, quickly climbing the pop music charts and reaching the top 30 in the pop digital chart less than a month after the song’s release. Chris Hall currently produces Matthew, having previously managed such names as the Saturdays and The Wanted. Chris Hall commented that “Matthew Joseph is incredible, talented and hard-working. A total dream to work with.” However, Matthew is in the middle of working with Myah Marie again, who has written for Britney Spears, Lil Wayne, Selena Gomez and Ru Paul. In messages to Matthew, Myah commented “I can’t wait to work on the new tracks. I’ve worked with huge musicians and let me tell you’ve got star power.” “There have been talks about an audition which we are trying to arrange for January for the board,” said Matthew. “The decision is a collaboration of the board and Tap Music Management so fingers crossed they like the song and me after the audition. “I’m in rehearsals with my dancers and choreographer Holly Routley. “It’s early stages at the moment and if I get through I have some big shoes to fill which I’ll try my best to be the best. “It would mean everything to me to be on Eurovision. “To finally get a stage big enough that I can do full choreography, a full production. “The thought I could be seen and accepted by millions is mind-boggling. I’m planning on my moment to shine whilst promoting and helping a great cause. “The song I’ve written is 2000s realness and it’s going to be catchy as hell. And also have a deep meaning. “I’m going to be entertaining inspired by lady gaga controversial meat dress and Britney naked vibes. They won’t know what’s hit them. “If they want fun entertainment and catchy memorable performance then they’ll choose me.” He is currently in rehearsals with his dancers, led by Holly Routley, who opened up for Ndubz’s Tulisa Contostavlos. The idea to applying for Eurovision came from Myah Marie who asked about the Eurovision rumours: “have you thought about Eurovision? Me and the guys were saying you’d be the best the UK could have.” Matthew’s current manager Lea Gatt says “Matthew has grown so much over the last year and I’m excited to see where his journey will take him. To Eurovision and beyond. So much talent will fill up that Stage.” Growing up in Wales as gay provided some challenges for Matthew. He always stood out, kids often making fun of him for his sexuality and feminine appearance. Because of this Matthew struggled with anxiety and depression. Despite everything, his parents were incredibly accepting of his sexuality. Matthew talks about negative comments due to his appearance. “I get lots of hate whenever an ad or press does well or anything,” said Matthew. “I get comments about my appearance and about how I look female, but I identify as male and am a gay cis male. “My experience growing up gay in Wales was mixed. I think I always stood out and was always made fun of for being gay and looking gay I guess. “I received constant name-calling for how I looked but it’s ironic because that’s the look that I own now and that has made me stand out now as an artist. “I’ve struggled with anxiety depression and kind of PTSD from name-calling, it’s something I haven’t really gone in-depth with before. mediadrumimages/@matthewjoseph0fficial
