PHOTO: EAST NEWS/REX FEATURES Prince Chalres performing the ritual 'turn up' of the match ball at the start of the town's traditional Shrovetide football game Prince Charles has been exercising his sporting skills by performing the annual 'turn up' of the ball at the town of Ashbourne's traditional Shrovetide football game (March 5). The Prince arrived at the Derbyshire town to meet members of the Shrovetide Committee, ball painters and past scorers who presented him with this year's ball. Following a spot of lunch, Charles was followed through the streets by 60 football players, three of whom then lifted him high into the air to show off the ball. The 'turn up' of the ball is the moment when it is thrown into the expectant crowd. After performing the ritual Charles watched a few minutes of the game before getting on his way.
