Kryzys w delcie Sacramento - Redux
Pistachio trees are pruned on Westlake farms, part of the Westlands water district in Central Ca. The waters of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Rivers feed the "bread basket" agricultural region of Central California. Farmers there have been fighting for more water, while congress has allotted them less and less due to the environmental impact on the fisheries and farms in the north, which has lead to a bitter and highly publicized water dispute. Though the Central California farmers are crying foul, they are also very wealthy and although they visibly promote the fact they they feed much of the nation with staples like lettuce and tomatoes, critics say they also use a large percentage of their land and water for cash crops that use excessive amounts of water and are not sustainable, like pistachios and other nuts.
