Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh sit with the Yeomen of the Guard - probably the oldest military corps still active in the world - inside Buckingham Palace. * Dressed in Tudor uniforms - scarlet doublets, breeches, red stockings, white ruffs and black velvet hats - they form the Queen's ceremonial bodyguard, dating back to 1485. Although similarly attired, the Yeomen of the Guard are not the same as the Yeomen Warders at the Tower of London, whose duties are confined to guarding the Tower. These days, the Yeomen of the Guard are retired warrant officers or non-commissioned officers of the Regular Army, Royal Marines or Royal Air Force with a distinguished record and a Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. With the Yeomen Warders, they are popularly known as "Beefeaters".
