Koniec komunizmu w Albanii - Redux
Altan goes every Monday to the Saint Anthony Church to take care of it. He lives in the nearby Christian village of Buze, working for the local Franciscan Church. Saint Anthony Church in Cap Rodon Park. The Cape of Rodon or Cape of Skanderbeg is north of Durres, in the Adriatic Sea. The church of Saint Anthony is a pilgrimige site for many Albanian Christians living inside and outside Albania on the date of Saint Anthony, June 13, and on the Virgin Mary Assumption on August 15. During the Communist times and until the 1990s the Church was covered and only after the end of the regime has been rehabilitated. Thirty years have passed since the end of the Communism Era in Albania in 1990-1991. The country has been closed to any contact with the outside world for more than 45 years. As a symbol of the ideological paranoia of its dictator Enver Hoxha, every corner of the country has been covered by oval shaped Bunkers of different dimensions and use, to remind the population that they were constantly in danger and at any time they could be attacked by foreign enemies. Today the two main bunkers in the capital Tirana has been transformed in an art museum, called Bunk'Art. With the sounds and lights of the time, the exhibitions and artistic works give a sense of the constant fear and perceived need of defense themselves. Rehabilitated and restored for tourism purpose, the Bunk'Art's visitor experiments that feeling of oppression, looking forward to finish the tour to breath some air outside. An outside of the cruel history which is still to be remembered. Text by Marta Bellingreri
