Theuns la Grange from Bloemfontein isn’t just a casual collector, he’s built a life around his passion for caps. Since 2001, he has gathered close to 8,000 of them, turning his home into a colourful tribute to headwear. It all began with a friendly challenge at a braai, which sparked a mission to collect at least 50 caps, but he never stopped. Friends, neighbours, and even strangers have contributed to the growing collection, and Theuns has tracked down caps wherever he could, sometimes under amusing circumstances. When the dining room became too crowded, he broke through the sun porch and built a dedicated entertainment room, where around 5,000 caps now hang from the ceiling. Another 3,000 are still waiting to be unpacked. His home also houses a large collection of rugby, cricket, and golf jerseys, including two he holds dear, his own school rugby jersey and one from his son’s first team. With space running out once again, Theuns says he might just have to keep building.
