PHOTO: ZGRZEMBSKA JANINA ARCHIWUM/EAST NEWS IRENA SENDLEROWA, 1943 ROK. 97 years old Irena Sendler, also known as Irena Sendlerowa, who has been most probably named for the Nobel Peace Prize ( nominations are supposed to be kept secret ) was a humble Polish social worker. During World War II she was an activist of Polish Underground and Polish anti-Holocaust resistance, Zegota, in Warsaw, where she helped to save about 2500 Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto by providing them false documents and hiding places in individual and group children houses out of the Ghetto. In 1965, Israel's Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial awarded Sendler one of its first medals given to people who saved Jews, the so-called "Righteous Among the Nations." In the picture: Irena Sendlerowa
