Penguins walking together
THE COOLEST penguin gang can be seen returning to sea after feeding their chicks.
Thousands of Macaroni penguins breed in this location called The Amphitheatre at Swartkop Point on the West Coast of Marion Island.
Due to the thousands of penguins' movements over thousands of years, they have carved out these neat highways as they enter and exit the colony.
Macaroni penguins were named as such for their slicked-back yellow crests, which resembled fancy hats worn by macaroni men in the 1800s.
These adorable images were snapped by Seabird Field Researcher Michelle Risi from South Africa.
“I am a seabird researcher currently stationed on Marion Island for 13 months conducting research on surface nesting seabirds and avian scavengers,” she said.
“Due to the nature of my job, I can capture the movements and antics of these wonderful birds for days on end.
“I loved the motion of the penguins, all busy on their morning hustle to the sea to get back out there to catch more food for their growing chicks.”
