The birds are inside the barrier fence at Zelandia, an ecosanctuary in Wellington, New Zealand. In pre-human times, New Zealand had no mammalian predators. Native plants and animals evolved without the fear of four legged predators and therefore are not equipped with defences against them. Each year millions of native birds, lizards and invertebrates are killed by invasive predator species and many natives have been pushed to the brink of extinction. La Nouvelle-Zelande. Les plantes et les animaux indigcnes ont evolue sans craindre les predateurs r quatre pattes et ne sont donc pas equipes de defenses contre eux. Chaque annee, des millions d'oiseaux, de lezards et d'invertebres indigcnes sont tues par des espcces de predateurs envahissantes et de nombreux indigcnes ont ete pousses au bord de l'extinction.
