EXCLUSIVE: British Nobel Prize winner's house goes up for sale at ?L600,000 with incredible views of Land's End A philosopher's house has just gone up for sale at ?L600,000 and it's the perfect place to ponder life's big questions. The impressive home, which sits on a cliff-top a stone's throw from Land's End, used to belong to British Nobel Prize winner Bertrand Arthur William Russell and his wife, author and outspoken feminist, Dora Russell. Bertrand was born in 1872 to Viscount Amberley and Katherine, who was the daughter of 2nd Baron Stanley of Alderley. He studied at Cambridge University and went on to receive numerous awards, including the Sylvester medal of the Royal Society and the de Morgan medal of the London Mathematical Society in 1934, before taking home the Nobel Prize for literature in 1950. His work had considerable influence on mathematics, logic and philosophy. Dora Russell was was a British author and a prominent campaigner for feminist and progressive causes, most notably working to make birth control readily available. Bertrand and Dora married in 1921, splitting their time between Chelsea, London, and their summer home in Land's End before divorcing in 1935. Bertrand later married his children???s nanny Patricia Spence????" but the home has remained in the family's ownership for 100 years and Dora lived there until her death in 1986. The Porthcurno property, then dubbed Sunny Bank and now referred to as Carn Voel, was bought in 1922. At 2,866 ft, the cliff-top home offers incredible views of the surrounding landscape, with the ocean breeze at your door and white sandy beaches a short walk away. Split across three floors, the property has been divided into a two-bedroom ground floor apartment and a five-six bedroom first and second floor maisonette. One of this home's more unusual features is that it was built in a somewhat ???hand drawn style??? with rows of windows lining the sea-facing windows. Carn Voel sits perfectly between the countryside and sea, somewhere between man and nature, with its large gardens almost completely surrounded by fields. The property even inspired the novel 'My Mother???s House' by Dora???s daughter, Katherine Tait, who inherited the home after her mum passed away. Carn Voel is listed with Lillicrap Chilcott.
