Do kogo należy kolumbijskie złoto? - Redux
A view of the tailings pond at Gran Colombia Gold's Frontino mine in Segovia, Antioquia, Colombia. The Canadian mining company Gran Colombia Gold has filed a 700 million USD lawsuit against the government of Colombia for failing to evict traditional miners from sites that the company has acquired. Colombia and Canada signed a Free Trade Agreement that is holds the framework for the lawsuit. The towns of Marmato and Segovia have been dedicated to mining for generations, but their methods are antiquated and risky by modern standards. The small-scale traditional miners are also easy prey for criminal and paramilitary groups and the government had hoped to modernize and formalize the practice with the presence of Gran Colombia Gold. The miners and their representatives have fought back with multiple legal strategies and have frustrated the company's advances.
