AP Historical Hard Drive 2008
A taxi driver clears out the clinkers from a charcoal burner on the back of his cab, June 20, 1942 in Eritrea. The burner generates combustion gases, on which the taxicab runs. Only 100 cabs are permitted in Eritrea of these 60 are in Asmara, the capital. The restriction is imposed to save tries, not fuel, as many taxis burn charcoal. Eritrea has been under control of the British for 16 months. (AP Photo)
