AP Historical Hard Drive 2008
This illustration from the Library of Congress collection depicts British assault troops landing at Closters and climbing up the Palisades after their crossing of the Hudson River, Nov. 19, 1776. The Americans left the landing place unguarded because they thought the Palisades unscalable, but a Tory showed the British a way up and they went on to capture Fort Lee in a surprise attack.
