A sheep and her lamb needed rescuing after getting stuck in the mud. RSPCA inspector Herchy Boal was called to Hanbury Woodend near Burton-on-Trent, England on Monday (28 September) after a member of the public spotted a ewe and her lamb stuck neck-high in mud in a field. Herchy said: ??sA member of the public spotted the ewe and lamb stuck fast in the mud in a boggy part of their field. ??sThe rest of the flock had been rounded up and moved to a different location a few days earlier so we believe they may have wandered into the bog during the round-up and may have been stuck for around 48 hours. ??sA Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service crew from Tutbury came to assist and we managed to pull both animals from the mud. ??sThankfully, the ewe was fine, if filthy, and she was quick to dart off into the field. We carried the poor little lamb over to the fire engine on a ladder and the crew hosed him down with water but sadly he wasn???t well at all. He???d really struggled in the mud and had some really nasty injuries to his legs and, unfortunately, he had to be put to sleep. ??sIt was lovely to see the ewe happily trot away but really sad that her lamb couldn???t be saved.??? We informed the owners and they came to collect her, clean her off and reunite her with the other sheep.
