Lahaina, Hawaii : THIS WOMAN in her seventh decade of life has revealed exactly how she hit the weights to bring her dress size down from UK 14 to UK 8 dress size.Vice President of Administration/General Council Ilene Block (63) from Lahaina, Hawaii has not only dropped more than four-stone from over 13 stone to 8.5 stone at the age of 61, but her ripped muscles and toned body can put any young person to shame.Born in New York and having lived most of her life in California, Ilene and her family decided to move to Maui in October of 2020.She has been happily married to the love of her life Elliot for 39 years and has two sons, Aaron (33) and Jacob (30) and a Great Dane named Koa.After dieting for 40 long years of her life, Ilene felt at the age of 60 that her crash diets were not only less effective but something was lacking in her regime. That is when she enrolled herself in a programme called The Wonder Woman that she stumbled upon online, something that she says was a sign to start afresh.The Wonder Woman program was started by Michelle MacDonald, Ilene was inspired to join when she saw a social media post by Michelle’s mother Joan MacDonald.Ilene has a fully-equipped gym in her garage. She lifts weights five days-a-week and her weight at any time depends on whether she is building or cutting down.She is currently doing cardio seven days a week for 40 minutes. She will get down to four days a week for 30 minutes after she has finished reversing her build. She is currently walking 8000 steps a day that she will eventually bring down to 5000 steps. She runs and rides her peloton to do her cardio.Ilene has just finished two master figure bodybuilding shows back to back.“Seeing Joan MacDonald’s random post on Instagram was a sign from the Universe that it was time to try something different,” said Ilene.“I signed up with the programme that day and started the program exactly on my 61st birthday on May 18, 2020. “When I had to send my weekly photos to them, I realised how important it was to me to face my realities.“I didn’t realise how big I was until I saw those pictures. That was not the woman I saw in my mind. I was truly horrified but determined to change.”Ilene hadn’t realised that she had those extra layers of fat until she started working religiously on them. She accepted her body and was determined to alter it, notwithstanding her age which was beyond 60 at that point.“I was the person who commented negatively about myself and I was really unhappy with how I looked and felt,” she said.“I had rolls of fat around my middle for the first time in my life post menopause and I felt gross. “I finally realised that crash diets don’t work and I needed a sustainable, doable, slow and healthy way to get fit.“I’m a hard worker and don’t give up once I set my mind to something but changing one’s mindset is the hardest part of the journey and the most important.“If you don’t change how you think about eating and exercise and why you do each, you will go back to your old habits.“Old habits are hard to break. For instance, It took me six months to stop eating in the evening, something that I did for decades to relax after a stressful day at work.“I don’t do that any more.”Changing her diet and exercise has changed Ilene’s life and she has done two bodybuilding competitions at the age of 63.“My outside finally matches my inside and I’m fit, healthy and happy and that attitude permeates my entire life,” said Ilene.“I’ve taken on challenges I would never have done before my transformation, including doing two bodybuilding competitions at 63. “The thing that gives me the most joy is when women in their 50s and 60s reach out and say I give them hope and inspiration to get in shape, something they wouldn’t have thought was possible post menopause.“I love that I can show them it Is possible and they can do it too.“I’m not particularly athletic or graceful but I am determined, stubborn, focused and have grit. I finish what I start. Every woman can do the same regardless of her age.”Ilene’s life has changed post her transformation and she reflects back on that and how supportive her family and husband has been throughout.“The most radical change in my life is being willing to take care of myself before most other things,” she said.“In the past, I would put my needs last and take care of everyone and everything before me.“Now, I make my food prep and my workouts my priority as they are really important to me. mediadrumimages/IleneBlock
