In the photos, the defiant messages can be seen having been painted over or shaded out, with the photographer claiming this is due to the country's extravagant military parade, which takes place today (9 May). Many of the graffiti pieces read ??shet bonhe???, Russian for ??sno war???, a slogan that has been used in many anti-war protests across the capital. Russian troops have been seen rehearsing for Victory Day in the Red Square, with President Putin's speech happening today. The Kremlin have denied claims that Victory Day would be used to formally declare war on Ukraine. ??sSuch inscriptions appear on the walls of St. Petersburg and Moscow houses," the photographer, not named for safety reasons, told Jam Press. "They try to paint over them, but it appears again and again." When asked if the graffiti had been painted over in an attempt to cover up the anti-war messages, the photographer said: "It's very interesting and strange ??"
