PHOTO:EAST NEWS/AFP This 29 February, 2000, photo shows the "death chamber" at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Huntsville Unit in Huntsville, Texas, where convicted murderer Odell Barnes is scheduled to die by lethal injection 01 March. Barnes was convicted of the 1989 murder of his girlfriend. French President Jacques Chirac asked former US President George Bush 24 February to intervene and save Barnes' life, in light of new evidence discovered by lawyers in 1997, which they said showed Barnes was framed by police investigating the murder. A pardon for Barnes must come from Texas Gov. George W. Bush, son of the former president and Republican presidential hopeful. The barred window leads to the gallery where witnesses sit to view the execution.
