EXCLUSIVE: **NO NEW YORK POST OR NEWS CORP USAGES** Story from Jam Press (Futuristic Living Room) Pictured: Kris McGrory with his children - Harley, 14, (right) and Brody, 10, (left). Dad transforms living room and kitchen into ALL WHITE futuristic space ??" using budget items from B&Q, IKEA and second-hand furniture from eBay A father-of-five has transformed his old, dull-looking living room and kitchen into an all-white futuristic space ??" using items from B&Q, Ikea and second-hand furniture from eBay. Kris McGrory from Coventry was fed up with the worn-out look of his living room and kitchen and so he decided to revamp the space on his own. Kris lives on his own and is father to his five children, Dior 16, Harley 14, Brody, 10, Giselle 8, one-month-old Theo, who live separately from him. The project had one key theme: the colour white. The 40-year-old began by sourcing a white carpet from a local carpet company, which cost him around ?L600, and then painted the walls with B&Q paint costing ?L10 a tub. He also painted the windows in white gloss paint and added voile curtains. Kris also divided the living room and kitchen space with wall dividers from B&Q costing ?L255. For the kitchen, he transformed the table surfaces with D-C Fix Gloss in white from B&Q, costing around ?L60 in total, while decorating the living room with ?L10 IKEA white lights and white champagne bottles to jazz up the space. Kris purchased acrylic shelves from eBay to accessorise the kitchen and added more champagne bottles as decorations on the walls. The 40-year-old also bought a bioethanol coffee table from Amazon for ?L300 as the centrepiece for his living room and added a bubble chair that he already owned, purchased years ago for around ?L300. Other touches included an IKEA glass cabinet for around ?L50 along the hallway to add to the simplistic look of the space. Kris also scoured eBay, purchasing second-hand tables and chairs which cost him around ?L100 and a footstool from TK Maxx for ?L40. He also added a white and chrome telescope from eBay that cost ?L60. In total, the living room and kitchen transformation cost around ?L1,785 in total. Speaking about the transformation, Kris told Jam Press: ??sI did the transformation all by myself. ??sSome of my friends helped paint the whole place from bottom to toe in white. ??sThe most enjoyable part of the transformation was after the walls were painted and the carpet was fitted. ??sThe place changed it from an abandoned building to a having an instant luxury feel. ??sThe most challenging thing was just keeping everything so plain! ??sI had to hide all my wires and try not to [trip] over clutter. ??sI have a cupboard full of nice ornaments and lights etc. but I can???t put up too much as it would compromise the simplicity.??? In a few words of advice to others who wish to renovate their space at home, Kris added: ??sI???d always say keep it plainer than what you think! ??sPeople often pick a colour to run with but then buy too much of that accent colour, they end up with cushions, wallpaper, kitchen appliances, rugs everything in the on-trend colour and it???s often too much. ??sMy place will never really date as it's all-white and plain as it is. ??sHowever, subtle lighting is key and can make any room and any colour cosy. ??sAlways use warm white lighting and hide as many cables as you can even if you're having to run a floor lamp cable under the carpet, it all just balances the feel out. ??sI???ve always had all white for the last 18 years, and people ask how do I do it. ??sAnd the simplest way I can explain it is, imagine a white car and a black car. ??sThe white car looks cleaner for longer! ??sPlus, I don???t need to dust as much with everything white.???
