Jack, a Brown Hawk, was sent recently to Taronga Zoo, in Sydney, Australia, from Mudgee, to have a damaged leg amputated, left. The Zoo's carpenter made a leg from cedar, with a bamboo cup. It is secured with surgical plaster so that it can be adjusted as Jack grows, This is the first time the zoo has fitted an artificial leg to a bird and they are now waiting to see if the Hawk will be able to tuck up his wooden leg and fly again.
