PHOTO: EAST NEWS/REX FEATURES British land-mine victim Chris Moon has successfully completed the infamous Badwater running race, a 30 mile trek through the Arizona dessert in temperatures reaching 130 degrees Fahrenheit. 38-year-old former soldier Chris, who lost an arm and a leg in an accident clearing mines in Uganda 6 years ago, completed his incredible journey in 53 hours and 47 minutes - just short of his target of 47 hours. The final part of the course included an ascent halfway up the slopes of the 14,500ft Mount Whitney - the most gruelling part of the course - which Chris completed in under an hour. Chris, from Basingstoke, Hampshire, took part in the annual 'super-marathon' to raise money for 4 charities, including one for limbless ex-servicemen. "I did this to show that disable people can take up the most demanding challenges in the world," he said. "We've no need to sit home like couch potatoes. "Also, it's the ultimate test for a false leg which I hope will help me and other amputees who want to run marathons." After his accident in 1995 Chris was honoured by Princess Diana for his bravery and work against land-mines, a cause which the princess actively supported.
