After arriving the royal couple were greeted by President Danilo Turk at the Brdo pri Kranju castle, 20 miles north of the capital; here they inspected an honour guard. During the two-day visit the Queen will also attend a state banquet at the castle and visit the Lipica Stud Farm, known for breeding Lipizzaner horses since 1580. The royal couple's visit has been announced as a sign of recognition of Slovenia's successful transition from communism to democracy and integration in the EU, which it joined in 2004.
