In a video shared on YouTube, which has nearly 70,000 views, two officers can be seen stepping out of a patrol car with nothing but their underwear. The DPolG police union in Bavaria, Germany, said the clip was released to draw attention to the shortage of uniforms. He stated: “Bavaria's police are 'stripping bare' and could literally be left standing without trousers. “Currently, 21 uniform items such as trousers, jackets, caps, etc, have a waiting time of several months.” In response to the video, on Wednesday (10 April), a spokesperson from the Ministry of the Interior stated: “We expect the gradual delivery of around 19,500 pieces starting in May 2024.” The union claimed the shortage is the result of supply chain bottlenecks since the Covid-19 pandemic.
