'Cinema for Peace' Charity Gala at the 58th International Berlinale at the Konzerthaus, Berlin, Germany - 11 Feb 2008
Each year during the Berlin International Film Festival the CINEMA FOR PEACE gala draws together personalities from film and media, as well as international society and business, in order to bring humanitarian issues to wider public attention. Since its premier in 2002 Cinema for Peace has supported UNICEF. The aim of Cinema for Peace is to promote peace and international understanding through the medium of film. For the past years, Cinema for Peace has invited members of the international film community to a gala night which highlights a selection of cinematic work in order to create a platform for peace and tolerance, while also raising significant funds for charity. Some of this year's films included: 4 month, 3 weeks, Charlie Wilson's War, The Diving Bell and Butterfly, The Kite Runner, Knocked Up, Persepholis, and A Mighy Heart. This year's awards ceremony was introduced by Bob Geldof, following with a gala dinner, charity auction by Simon de Pury, and an after show.
