Johannesburg, South Africa: THIS WOMAN gave birth to her brother’s child – as a surrogate.Owner of a marketing agency, Vusidiva Nxumalo (41) from Northriding, Johannesburg, South Africa, had been through gruesome years of surrogacy experiences that had all ended in failure and disappointment when his sister offered to carry his baby.Even though Vusi’s sister Tsakani (32) had vowed she wouldn’t carry another child after a tough pregnancy with her son Jayden (8), she offered to become the gestational surrogate for her brother.Gestational surrogacy is a process where one person, who did not provide the egg used in conception, carries a fetus through pregnancy and gives birth to a baby for another person or couple.Vusi, who doesn’t want to share details about his married life had considered adoption with his partner but his heart’s desire was to have a child of his ownHis sister, Tsakani, was able to give him that gift, his son Manoah Jayden born 6.04 pm on 12 August 2022.“After the failed surrogacy attempts I was devastated and I thought parenthood wasn’t for me,” said Vusi.“I wasn’t quite sure how to come to terms with that.“In terms of surrogacy, I’ve been to hell and back with an opportunist; I’ve been lied to by someone I trusted; and another time by the surrogate, who, at the last minute after all the paperwork was almost done in court, pulled out.“It was a dark time.”Vusi’s family knew about his struggles with surrogates, but they didn’t quite know the extent of it. So when they got to know about his dark times, Tsakani didn’t think twice to be the surrogate for him and their mother Josephine supported them throughout.“Vusi was such a wonderful uncle to my son and he had a burning desire to become a father,” said Tsakani.“I realised these things are bigger than just myself and I was able to give him what he has been wanting for so many years.“I was dead set against being pregnant again because of my own fears as I was terribly ill during my pregnancy with Jayden – so ill that for the last few months I was put on bed rest.“But this pregnancy was even harder than my first and I was plagued by nausea and exhaustion but the result was well worth it. mediadrumimages/Media24/OnkgopotseKoloti
