Having a laugh.... A pair of sea lions look like best buddies as they rest along the edge of the Forth Estuary on Inchkeith Island, Firth of Forth, Scotland. Dennis Gentles, 69 years old, a retired university lecturer who photographed the grey seals said, "This pair of female seals with young pups are actually warning each other off their ‘area’ on a crowded beach." "It could be interpreted that the pair look like they are friends having a laugh, but it was no laughing matter. Each mother was making sure no other seal would get close enough to their pup. At this time of year seals are seen on most of the islands in the Forth estuary." "I was on the island for about 2 hours observing their behaviour when I took these funny shots. The access to Inchkeith Island is restricted and very difficult as well as extremely dangerous. I was there as part of a Seal Preservation Group who have the required permission and essential health and safety measures in place. Access to Inchcolm Island is much easier and is visited by many people by boat. There are several seals on that island and many of the other islands in the Forth, but Inchkeith probably has the largest numbers of seals."
