Pictured: This bee has been weighed down by mites hoping to use it as a 'taxi' back to its nest. The red Mason bee struggled to take off after all the pollen mites crawled onto its back. Amateur photographer Gemma Gates, 29, was surprised to spot the bee on the lawn of her back garden in Basingstoke, Hants. The support worker said: "I was sat on the lawn looking for spiders to photograph. I noticed the bee walking around on the grass and then it stopped long enough for me to take two images - it was constantly moving but as far as I could see, it couldn't fly.
