Open the float gates..... Swarms of people board ferries as they rush to get home to celebrate Eid al-Fitr. Badal Sarker said "Due to the increase restrictions of the coronavirus pandemic, lockdown has restricted travel in Bangladesh. However due to one of the biggest festivals in the calendar Eid of Islam is going to be celebrated on Friday 14th May." "Therefore people are ignoring orders to stop travelling, some people are leaving Dhaka to celebrate Eid at their own residences. Long distance bus service are closed due to government announced lockdown but ferries are meant to be operating for those needing urgent travel." "This has meant people have come from far and wide to get on the ferries. It is seen here that due to the small number of ferries, everyone is trying to get together, which has already resulted in the death of 5 people. Even then, people here in Mawa Ghat in Munshiganj are still trying to get on the ferry in different ways, some even using the ropes to get on board." Please byline: Badal Sarker/Solent News ??
