Mum taking off with the food to train the baby USA EXCITING images of a mother peregrine falcon enticing its fledgling with food in a bid to teach it to hunt were captured in California. The baby falcon was around six weeks old and was learning from its experienced mother how to hunt while flying. Peregrine falcons are known for their strong hunting ability, high trainability, and versatility. They are also the fastest birds on the planet; in fact, with a dive speed of 240 miles per hour, they are the fastest animals in the world when they dive. These images were taken by a wildlife photographer, Decker Nomura (55), in San Diego, California, USA. He used a Nikon z9 camera and a Nikon 800mm 5.6 lens coupled with a 1.25x teleconverter - used to increase the focal length of the lens to 1000mm - to capture this rare moment. “I was very excited to catch this learning process in my camera. It is not something you come across often,” he said. “In the past, the mum would just drop off the food near the baby, but not this time. She just continued to fly, much to the surprise of the little bird. “The mother eventually dropped the food in mid-air, and the fledgling flew higher, caught it mid-flight, and perched on the cliff to eat. Training successfully.” ENDs
