Australia: THIS EATING disorder survivor who once had the weight of an eleven-year old schoolgirl has said goodbye to the feeding tube that has kept her alive for the past SEVEN YEARS by spectacularly revealing its stomach-churning three-foot length. Footage shows how this brave woman, who was down to UK dress size two and who is estranged from her parents because of the condition, now celebrates the end of her relationship with her feeding tube by pulling the length of it out of her nose for good and she is now two week free and able to enjoy hot square meals like most people. Admin officer Rachael Hugman (22) from Brisbane Australia suffers from anorexia and has been fighting to recover since 2015 by ingesting sometimes only a quarter of her 2,000 recommended daily calory intake through her tube, leading to her weight plummeting to just 85-pounds (just five-stone eight pounds) the same as an average eleven-year old schoolgirl. Rachael first noticed she had an eating disorder when she was 15 when attending her aunt’s wedding. She noticed her dress felt too large and realised that she was underweight. She wanted to start eating healthy however was worried about her metabolism slowing down. When at her worst, Rachael was consuming less than 500 calories today, only a fraction of the recommended 2,000 calories daily intake. Since 2015, Rachael has been placed on a nasogastric feeding tube, receiving nutrition for this on and off for the past seven years. The tube is a thin, plastic tube that is inserted through the nose and extends down into the stomach.
The tube can feel uncomfortable and cause discomfort when inserted. It must be taken out and changed every seven days. Whilst wearing the tube, Rachael can still eat some foods however liquid will be inserted into the tube and pumped into the stomach.
