The deer then stops to pick its nose with its tongue. Aberdeenshire, Scotland: THESE ADORABLE photos show a deer smiling at the camera, popping out of a wheat field for a surprise smirk at the lucky Scot prison officer who took the shot. One image shows a red deer poking its head out of a wheat field, smiling directly at the camera, before comically picking its nose with its tongue. These incredible photos were captured by Prison Custody Officer Mark Deans (35) near his home in Aberdeenshire, Scotland using a Canon 6D camera with a Sigma Contemporary 150-600mm lens. “I was looking for red kites in the forest next to Banchory in Aberdeenshire,” said Mark. “I was walking through a wheat field and the deer popped up 20 feet in front of me and stopped for a smile and a couple of pictures before they jumped off down the field.” The red deer is one of the largest deer species in the world, growing up to 48 inches high and weighing approximately 500 pounds. The red deer have a four-chambered stomach, categorising them as ruminants, a type of herbivore who ferment their food in their stomachs, such as in giraffes and other animals. “I love taking pictures of wildlife in the raw wild outdoors of Scotland, from dolphins to deer to damselflies and badgers, it's a passion of mine that I’ll never stop now. “I’m self-taught, no training, just learned from YouTube and books from the library. “I started doing photography due to lockdown and it’s gone from there and I love it and can’t stop.” mediadrumimages/MarkDeans
